I own a lot of bandanas. Wear them constantly, actually. I've also designed many paisley patterns, however the more I sat with this one in particular, the more I wanted to know where it really came from. Turns out it's older and further-traveled than I ever imagined. Before it was a bandana, it was bandhani, a tie-dye tradition out of South Asia. Before that, it was boteh, a teardrop motif that wound its way across borders and centuries long before anyone called it paisley. Learning that changed how I saw the print I'd worn my whole life. This piece is my way of sitting with that history and adding a piece of my own story to it: the cowrie shell, something my ancestors carried, traded, and wore as adornment and worth.
Cowrie Boteh is different lineages coming together on one scarf. My hope is that this reimagined boteh (paisley) makes you a little more curious about where the things you wear come from too.
Generously cut to a 35" inch square, this piece offers plentiful styling options. Wear it in your hair, as a bag strap, or style it as a wrap top. It can even be framed and hung for display as the latest conversation starter in your favorite room. Your creativity is the only limit.

• care instructions: hand wash with mild (silk-safe) detergent; to dry: do not wring/twist, instead roll up in a towel, lay flat and air dry; okay to steam or iron in low heat (on the reverse side) once dry
